Description
- Title:
- Eyewitness account by Arthur Lehmann of his experiences in Westerbork and Auschwitz camps
- Summary:
-
Personal report telling the particulars about a transport of 350 men from Holland to the east. At their arrival at Westerbork the author tried in vain to protect 32 exceptional cases the documents for which he had with him. On the 23 March, they left the camp together with 350 more prisoners, well provided with blankets, warm clothes etc. which they had to deliver at the arrival at Auschwitz, never to see them again (p.1-4). Robbed again and again (p.5-6). Quarantine. Dutch Jews proving less tough than all others. Hatred of Poles and Russians. Classification: straffällige Jews (S-Fälle, i.e. liable to punishment) - how was it possible that Jewish leaders in Holland were so completely ignorant? (p.4,7). The report describes experiences at Monowitz - 35,000 men, Jews and Poles, working for I.G. Farben manufacturing Buna, and firms of the Ruhrgebiet (p.7-10). Quarantine; decent Blockältester Stiasny from Berlin. Atrocities. Good hospital; who was ill for more than four weeks, was sent to Birkenau. Laurahütte Vereinigte Königs und Laurahütte A.G. (p.11).
