The author is the son-in-law of Jakob and Rosa Oppenheimer, the late partners of van Diemen & Co. in Berlin, a renowned firm of art dealers; as a liquidator of this firm, he claimed, in 1952, from the Bavarian assets of Hermann Göring restitution of five Aubusson Gobelins which he had acquired, in January 1935, without ever paying for them, although repeatedly pressed for payment by the officially appointed controller of the firm Bolko von Richtenhofen.
